The Department of Psychology contributes to six Institutional Research Lines developed by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research (VRI) and the Directorate for Research Promotion (DFI). Within each of these lines, the Department and its Research Groups address issues related to four national problems: Violence, Health, Integral Development and Inclusion-Exclusion.
The Department of Psychology contributes to this line with the study of issues of moral development and citizenship education, as well as learning and teaching at different educational levels. In addition, it considers the study of beliefs, subjective theories and reflection processes in teachers as well as their training, among others. These thematic strengths are directly linked to the national problems of integral development and social inclusion-exclusion.

On the one hand, protective and risk factors associated with the consumption of psychoactive substances and addictive behaviors are studied, including psychological and behavioral factors, risk and protection, as well as evaluation and prevention measures. On the other hand, topics of motivation and emotion such as motivational styles and types, perspective of future time, implicit theories of effort, goals of achievement and satisfaction and frustration of basic psychological needs are worked on. Topics of positive psychology and well-being in different contexts are also addressed, as well as health in different contexts (educational, training, organizational, clinical, sports) and psycho-oncology issues. Regarding the thematic strengths in psychoanalytic therapy, change is studied based on the analysis of relevant episodes of the therapeutic process as well as the relational and conflictive patterns and vulnerabilities that are appreciated in the psychic functioning and the psychoanalytic psychotherapeutic process. Finally, aspects of relational relationships and socio-emotional development are investigated, such as the quality of care in childhood, attachment throughout life, socio-emotional competence and problematic behaviors.
