The Journal of Psychology of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú was founded in 1983, in collaboration with the Radboud University (formerly Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen) in the Netherlands. Its main objective is to encourage the research and intellectual production of Ibero-American psychologists, in addition to being a space to contrast efforts and expand knowledge in order to ensure the continuity and development of Psychology as a science in Peru. Since then, it has achieved uninterrupted biannual publications and an exemplary positioning at the national level.
The first editor of the Journal of Psychology was Dr. Roberto Lerner, from 1983 to 1988. In 1988, Dr. Cecilia Thorne (RIP) assumed its direction until 2009, being recognized as Director Emeritus of the journal. During his period, the internationalization of the Journal of Psychology was achieved and the indexing stage began. In 2009, Dr. Sheyla Blumen assumed the direction of the Journal, expanding the publication to 4 languages, incorporating the DOI code per article and focusing the work on the indexing process in the main international databases, achieving its indexing in WOS and SCOPUS.
The Journal of Psychology has been a stimulus for the advancement of research, but at the same time it has been a reflection of it. Since its inception, published research has testified to the progress that has been made in Peruvian psychology, the trends that have prevailed in Latin American psychology, as well as the direction that is being taken towards the future.
Since 1994, when it became the first Peruvian scientific journal of Psychology accepted in PsycINFO, until today, when it is indexed in Scopus, WOS and more than 17 indexing bases, it has managed to persevere in uninterrupted publications. This was thanks to the unconditional support of the Department of Psychology, the Editorial Fund PUCP, the Automation Office of the Central Library, and the entire team of volunteer teachers and students, who do a commendable job.
Throughout these decades, the Journal of Psychology has managed to overcome a long road full of challenges, which allows it to be recognized today as the fourth most important scientific journal in Peru.
